 2016 Asian Evaluation Week

Description
Countries have paid more and more attention on the use of evaluation for better results and accountability. The growing attention and expediency of evaluation were reflected, among others, at the policy level where countries develop evaluation policy and institutions; and at the implementation level where they grapple with evaluation methodology, utilization, and resources. This happened as the Sustainable Development Goals agenda emphasizes capacity building of countries on evaluation to better track and ensure achievement of national objectives and global goals. Capacity development of countries in evaluation is thus necessary.

Objectives
The Asia Evaluation Week is the first annual event to be led by the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and ADB for evaluation knowledge sharing within Asia and between Asia and other regions, such as Africa and Latin America.

The event objectives are:

  • To provide a venue for inter-regional exchange on the latest and cutting edge ideas on evaluation.
  • To enable countries to share experiences on evaluation and gain knowledge on managing and using evaluations.
  • To allow experts and development partners to showcase progress in evaluation or an evaluation area or topic that is of interest to them, and get country perspectives and/or support.

Participants are expected to strengthen their capacity in development evaluation. It is envisioned to build a strong capacity within PRC-Asia-Pacific Finance and Development Institute to take the lead in coordinating with partner institutions to host the Asian evaluation event, and for government officials to eventually self-fund as the event becomes a good and influential learning event.

The following institutions have confirmed their participation:
  • African Development Bank
  • Asian Development Bank
  • European Bank for Reconstruction and Development
  • Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations
  • Inter-American Development Bank
  • International Fund for Agricultural Development
